The Altar Flowers are Donated by Jewell Johnson-Happy Birthday Sonya Z Sanders

MEMBER UPDATE REQUEST:   We are asking all members to update their telephone number(s) including cell numbers, update their mailing addresses and also update their email addresses.  We are making a valiant attempt to be in touch with all of our members on a timely basis.

A WORD ABOUT STANDING FOR THE SCRIPTURE READING:    There is no rule in the United Methodist Church to stand or not when any scripture, Old or New Testament, is being read. The act to stand or not is merely a personal preference for each individual.   Also, the correct or appropriate word to use is “rise” as opposed to “stand” because everyone may not be physically able to stand, but everyone can rise in mind, body and spirit.   So, if you are asked to read scripture, please just read it or say, “If you would like, I invite you to rise with me for the reading of the scripture.”

READING FOR FUN:   Are you looking for something to do and perhaps a way to keep your child or even yourself occupied over The Thanksgiving & Christmas break?  Well, why not check out a book from our library!  It has already been stocked with Holiday Favorites.  As a matter of fact, let’s see how many books we can read as a church family before January 1, 2019.  Who knows there may be a prize or two? So let’s get started.  Read, read, and read because knowledge is power.  Remember there is no age limit on reading!

THE LORETTA C. MANGRUM CHORALE, under the direction of Eric Oliver, will be performing here today at 5:00 p.m.  Please plan to attend this great concert.

Altar Flower Calendar for 2019:   We have been blessed for 2019 and have a new Florist. The price will remain the same $45.00. The Flower calendar for 2019 will be located at the Welcome Center Desk.

Remember if you share a date the cost is $22.50. The Altar Guild is thanking all of you in advance for your support in beautifying the Altar for 2019. Any questions please contact Karen Brentley, Pat Harper, and Geraldine Harper.

NEW YEAR’S EVE FELLOWSHIP:   If you are looking for something to do this New Year’s Eve, you are invited to join Gaines UMC.  Fellowship starts at 8 pm with food, games & fun followed by worship around 10 pm.  You can come & leave as you like.

HOLD THE DATE:  The Pastor along with your Lay Leader and Lead Team Chairperson would like to meet with Ministry Chairs on Saturday, January 12, 2019.  So please hold the date.  A sign- up sheet will be on the hospitality desk after the first of the year.

The Women of Vision will meet Saturday, January 5, 2019, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. We will begin the New Year with a book review “The Sun Will Shine,” a true story by Anthony Ray Hinton.  Elaine Hubbard will be the presenter and encourages all of the women to attend and participate in the discussion and enjoy the fellowship.   The 2019 WOV Calendar will be distributed at this meeting.

FOOD PANTRY:   Donations for January are Ramen noodles

The Law of Reciprocal Supply-Through meeting other’s needs, we meet our own. When you face a big need, try to find someone else with that same need.  Pray for them, help them, and do everything in your ability to meet their need. Use your gifts.  Giving monetary gifts is important and needful, but giving ministry gifts in service for Christ is vital.  Know your giftedness and use it for God’s Glory. As this season of giving approaches, remember to give to God’s house so that we can continue to do ministry for the community.
